Helper
Summary:
A worker who assists another worker, usually of a higher level of competence or expertness, by performing a variety of duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Possess a basic knowledge of ship building procedures and know how to find compartments of the ship by space number, and know port from starboard, and forward from aft.
- Furnish another worker with materials, tools, and supplies as needed.
- Responsible for cleaning the work area, machines, and/or equipment upon completion of the job or work day.
- Follow instructions exactly as given.
- Work safely and know the safety rules and regulations as they apply to you.
- Able to withstand environmental factors such as:
o Outside weather conditions
o High, precarious places
o Exposed to fumes and airborne particles
o Very loud noise level
- Required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms on a regular basis.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and seek assistance with weights over 50 lbs.
- Occasionally perform other physical activities as required, such as:
o Stooping
o Bending
o Squatting
o Climbing (including but not limited to vertical and incline ladders, masts, and kingposts)
o Crawling (including but not limited to through scuttles, manhole covers, tanks, and voids)
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements:
- 1+ years of experience working in a Ship Yard.
Other Requirements:
- Must be able to pass Drug Screening, Work Ability Screening.
- Must be able to obtain a Government facility security pass.
